Malay, a first-class Municipality is the tourism capital of the Province of Aklan. Located at the northwestern tip of Panay Island, it is bounded on the north by Sibuyan and Sulu Seas, on the east by the Municipality of Nabas, on the west by the Municipality of Buruanga and on the south by the Province of Antique. Having a total land area of 6,731 hectares, it is politically divided into 17 barangays.

Grand Float Parade Competition

The Municipality of Malay once again celebrated the Fiesta de Obreros Festival which is now on its 16th Year. The festival was the highlight of the yearly Municipal and Parochial Fiesta which is celebrated in honor of the Patron Saint Joseph the Worker. This also gives honor and tribute to the hardworking laborers who work collectively to contribute to the continuous progress of the municipality. This year’s festival was highlighted with the Grand Float Parade Competition which was participated by the 17 Barangays in the Municipality of Malay. Each float entry was decorated based on their barangay’s livelihood, products, film documentary and or an icon that has significance in their barangay.

Grand Champion

Barangay Motag

The float of Barangay Motag showcased their simple living and livelihood which is Pangunguma or Farming and its product.

 

2nd Place

Barangay Cubay Sur

 

The Float of Barangay Cubay Sur showcased the Ati Community, the Indigeous People of the municipality which recides in their Barangay.

 

3rd Place

Barangay Dumlog

 

The Float of Barangay Dumlog showcased the products made of Bamboo which can be found abundantly in their Barangay, and the Grupo Daegon, a group of elderly people who sing folk songs known as “Daegon”.
